Ponzi Vineyards
As visionaries and pioneers of the Oregon wine industry, Dick and Nancy Ponzi were responsible for creating its foundation. Their many visits to the state legislature, founded some of the toughest labeling requirements in the country and helped allow wineries and adjoining tasting rooms to be constructed on agricultural farm land. A first for Oregon. They helped create the Oregon Winegrowers Association and the Oregon Wine Advisory Board, both organizations useful in providing research and promotion for the industry. Nancy Ponzi has co-founded some of the most important and successful wine events in the state; namely, the International Pinot Noir Celebration, the ¡Salud! Pinot Noir Auction and Oregon Pinot Camp. In the early days of marketing Oregon wines, Dick and Nancy were some of the first vintners to travel outside the state and introduce the trade, press and consumers to the unknown region and its wines. Ponzi Vineyards was also one of the first to celebrate wine and lifestyle with public events held at the winery, including the valley's first jazz festivals. The couple has played a vital role in shaping and now maintaining the high standards and integrity of the Oregon wine industry. The family continues to be well respected for their innovation and active participation in the field.
