Chateau De Clotte

Château de Clotte is a small-production estate located in the Côtes de Castillon AOC of Bordeaux. The appellation is named after Castillon-la-Bataille, a town best-known for being the site of the battle that ended the Hundred Years’ War. The Côtes de Castillon lies on the right bank of the Dordogne River, where the soils are a mix of sandy gravel, clay and limestone. The appellation is a hotbed for small-production, estate-bottled wines (most of the vintners farm less than 10 hectares) and the price-to-quality ratio is quite favorable, especially in a glorious vintage like 2005. Like St.-Émilion, its neighbor to the East, the Côtes de Castillon produces dark-hued wines that are largely based on the Merlot grape. Bruno Laporte’s Château de Clotte has a total of 12 hectares under vine with clay and limestone and a subsoil of limestone rock. Visit the Chateau De Clotte website.
