The Scoop: The 2003 Cyan is produced from 100% Tinto de Toro (tempranillo) grown from estate-owned vineyards on vines ranging from 20-50 years old. The wine was aged for 12 months in used French and American oak.
Why We Like It: The Cyan is a rich style of Tinto de Toro. In Toro, the wines tend to be a bit more explosive than in Rioja or Ribera del Duero. The Cyan brings more of that explosiveness and a true sense of place.
Tasting Notes: The Cyan is dark ruby in color. It exhibits an expressive nose of toast, blueberry, and coffee with notes of cassis. Full bodied with luscious up front fruit and just the right acidity, the wine has excellent depth and concentration. There’s plenty of structure here. Cellar worthy. Drink now through 2016
Wine Advocate
The 2003 Cyan (100% Tinta de Toro) comes from estate-owned vineyards ranging from 20-50 years of age. The wine was aged for 12 months in used French and American oak. Dark ruby in color, it offers an expressive nose of espresso roast, toast, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Its full-bodied (14.5% alcohol) personality is formed by mouth-filling ripe fruit, just enough acidity to hold the wine together, and excellent depth and concentration. There is enough structure to ensure 6-8 years of longevity.
Score: 90.
