Inviting aromas of candied cherries, violets, cigar box, and black cherry. Powerful weight on the palate with a silky smooth texture that is warming with spicy, racy fruit. The finish is rather complex showing notes of dark, dried fruit, Pomerol like pencil shaving and a deep tannic structure that adds lift.

Wine Spectator

Polished and refined, glowing with currant, blackberry, sage and bay leaf aromas and flavors. Persists impressively on the poised finish. Drink now through 2014.

Score: 91. —Harvey Steiman, June 15, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Reserve Merlot was aged in 39% new oak. It is dark ruby-colored with aromas of balsam wood, cassis, and black cherry. Moderately structured on the palate, this medium-bodied effort has plenty of ripe, spicy fruit, good balance, and a medium long, fruit-filled finish. Drink it through 2016.

Score: 88. —Jay Miller, October 2009.
