The Colonial Estate

The resulting wine is therefore not just fullbodied and rich, but has a linear sense of fresh definition, with major uplift on the end palate, that is a feature of the region.

Wine Spectator

Rich and ripe, with layers of black cherry, blackberry and licorice to tunnel through before getting to the meaty, minerally core. The finish lingers against polished tannins. This is surprisingly refined. Drink now through 2017.

Score: 92. —Harvey Steiman, April 30, 2008.

Wine Advocate

The 2005 Mungo Park Shiraz was sourced from a vineyard with low yields of 1.5 tons per acre. The wine was aged in 100% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. It reveals fragrant aromas of toasty oak, smoke, tar, black olives, and blueberry compote. Ripe and intensely flavored upon entry, it exhibits an elegant personality with outstanding depth, concentration, and a long, pure finish.

Score: 91. —Jay Miller, October 2007.

Wine Enthusiast

Perfumed and floral at first, but this wine also features some deeper, darker notes of black pepper and black olive. It’s plenty rich on the palate, oozing with earth and cola flavors that stay lively through the finish. Drink now–2015.

Score: 91. —Joe Czerwinski, November 01, 2007.
