As the popularity of Oregon Pinot Noir and the Ponzi brand gained momentum, industry pioneers, Dick and Nancy Ponzi passed the reins to the second generation. In 1993, Luisa returned from her post-graduate enological studies in Beaune, France to take over her father’s role as winemaker. It was in this year that all 3 Ponzi children assumed full-time roles at the winery. For nearly four decades, the Ponzis have set the standard for Oregon’s viticultural innovation while maintaining an unwavering commitment to a tradition of winemaking excellence. Blah, blah, blah. How does it taste? Look for a bright brass color. Aromas of honeysuckle, magnolia, powdered sugar, tangerine and fresh cut flowers. The palate is focused with flavors or crisp green apple and honeydew melon with a bright finish of lingering citrus notes. A great wine to liven the taste buds, pair this with Thai food, barbecue, or spicy chili. Will play nice with fish. Drink now through 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

Luisa Ponzi has her white wines dialed in nicely, as this luscious and fruit-powered Pinot Blanc so beautifully demonstrates. Fresh, juicy flavors of pear, lime, honeydew and apple coat the tongue along with bracing acids. There is a lovely floral perfume character that lifts the wine into a higher level.

Score: 90. —Paul Gregutt, November 15, 2008.

Wine Spectator

Light and fragrant, with a waft of something resembling incense lingering around the pear and almond flavors. Drink now.

Score: 89. —Harvey Steiman, 2008.
