Kingston Family Vineyards

The 2008 Alazan is fairly ripe. Almost Californian, in fact, although with a touch of the savory notes that I’ve come to learn are typical of Pinot grown in our vineyard. It definitely needs to be decanted to show its best. With a little air, black fruits come to the fore, with some Asian five spice and brown sugar notes. Fairly powerful stuff.

Wine Enthusiast

Kingston’s top-level Pinot Noir has been a consistent scorer for the past three vintages. The 2008 starts with pure raspberry and cherry aromas as well as tea accents, while the textbook palate has a proper feel and tasty raspberry and cherry flavors. Spice notes and integrated oak help it achieve its status as one of Chile’s truest, most recognizable Pinot Noirs. Drink now through 2011; 300 cases made.

Score: 91. —Michael Schachner, March 01, 2010.

Wine Advocate

The 2008 Alazan Pinot Noir is dark ruby red in color with an enticing perfume of wood smoke, spice box, cherry blossom, cranberry, and black raspberry. Medium-bodied and silky-textured, it elegantly displays spicy dark fruits, good balance, and a pure finish. Give it another 1-2 years to fully blossom and drink it from 2011 to 2018.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, December 2010.

Wine Spectator

Juicy and compact for now, with a solid core of red and black cherry and currant fruit backed by lively spice notes. There's nice grip on the finish. Should unwind in the short term. Drink now through 2010. 300 cases made.

Score: 89. —James Molesworth, December 15, 2009.
