Hirsch Vineyards

Bright, charming notes of red plum, white flowers and black cherries on the nose. Evolving with air to cherry cola, cinnamon and mulling spices, wet stone and red roses. Precociously charming and pretty upon opening, evolving into sophisticated notes of clay earth, bergamot and minerality with air. On the palate, cherries, leather, pomegranate juice and cranberries. A sparkling line of acidity delineates the wine, and soft tannins impart a luxurious mouthfeel.

Wine Enthusiast

Not as pricey as the winery’s San Andreas bottling, but in the same style. Light-bodied, elegant, dry and modest in alcohol, yet with great focus and intensity. A lovely wine that’s a relative bargain.

Score: 92. —Steve Heimoff, July 01, 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2009 Pinot Noir Bohan Dillon is a gorgeous wine. Sweet dark cherries, mint, flowers, spices and licorice are all woven together in a textured fabric of notable class. The Bohan Dillon impresses for its elegance and sheer finesse, both of which are remarkable at this price point. The juicy finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. The main source of fruit is young vines within the estate’s own vineyards, although Hirsch buys some fruit from the neighboring Hellenthal and MacDougal properties to round out the blend. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.

Score: 91. —Antonio Galloni, February 2012.
