Fratelli Alessandria

Monvigliero hill is known as the most prestigious single vineyard in Verduno town and is definitely one of the most symbolic of Barolo country. Our vineyard has over 30 years of age, at an altitude of about 320 meters and faces south. The wine from Monvigliero is austere and complex.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Barolo Monvigliero offers up freshly cut flowers, red berries and mint in a rich style that brilliantly reconciles a generous expression of fruit with a firm, classic sense of structure. There is so much to admire in the Monvigliero today, but readers should really set aside a few bottles in the deepest corner of their cellars. The elegance and pedigree are first-rate. This is another fabulous wine from Alessandria. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031.

Score: 94+. —Antonio Galloni, December 2010.

Wine Enthusiast

Fratelli Alessandria’s flagship Barolo opens with pretty spice nuances followed by cherry, blueberry and loads of buoyant fruit. This is a happy, cheerful wine with a vertical lift and tonic notes of eucalyptus and root beer. The tannins are drying and fine. Drink after 2018.

Score: 93. —Monica Larner, December 01, 2010.

Wine Spectator

A saline, mineral current underlies the cherry, tar and tobacco flavors in this firm, sinewy red which is concentrated, intense and long, despite its austerity. Be patient. Best from 2014 through 2030. 500 cases made.

Score: 91. —Bruce Sanderson, December 31, 2010.
