Cooper Mountain Vineyards got its start in 1978 when Dr. Robert Gross and his wife, Corrine, planted the first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The two of them tended the vines and carefully nurtured them as they established in the unique soils of Cooper Mountain. Cooper Mountain Vineyards rests on the slopes of an ancient volcano. Over thousands of years, erosion helped create the terrain, soils and characteristics that make their wines unique. Their vineyards sit on land once farmed by Oregon pioneers who took to the unique location despite its challenges and lack of water. Note that this wine is organically and biodynamically produced. This stuff just pops on the palate with fresh, jazzy fruit in a clean, pure style that screams “drink me!” That’s exactly what you’ll want to do on Thanksgiving Day when you’re table is filled with all the fixings. Look for loads of fresh fruit that is intense yet subtle in its approach. The palate brings plenty of flavor that is backed by taut acidity carrying the fruit to a deliciously clean finish. Perfect for Thanksgiving or any holiday entertaining.

Wine Spectator

Light and airy, with a welcome transparency to the raspberry and cherry flavors, hinting at tobacco and mineral as the finish lingers delicately. Drink now through 2013. 3,000 cases made.

Score: 89. —Harvey Steiman, July 31, 2010.
