Calera Mt. Harlan Viognier 2006
The 2006 Viognier displays excellent varietal aromatics; distinctive notes of ripe summer peaches are enhanced by the subtle scent of white flowers. Ripe fruit flavors of peach and pear are nicely counter-balanced with an intriguing spiciness and the trademark minerality of the Mt. Harlan appellation. This is a luscious wine with big structure, wonderful balance and a persistent, lingering finish. Wine Enthusiast Calera’s Josh Jensen was one of the first Californians to take Viognier seriously, and his little piece of mountain terroir has repeatedly proven itself for the variety. The ’06 isn’t his best ever, but it’s a rich, savory wine, with mouthwatering acidity and exotic flavors of tropical fruits, peach and apricot jam, figs, dates and honey.
