Barnett Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Winemaker Notes: The grapes for this wine are sourced from their Estate and from neighboring York Creek, Crowley and Spring Mountain Vineyards. Each Vineyard block was fermented and aged separately for 12 months then blended followed by further aging. This wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels with 65% new. The addition of 6% Cabernet Franc brought up the spice in the nose and gave the wine a little more backbone.
Tasting Notes: This opaque deep purple wine has immediate cassis on the nose, with large amounts of graphite, and ground pepper. Deep cooking chocolate, black licorice and vanilla bean tones are also prevalent. The palette is rich with big black currant, more pepper and vanilla as well as the classic spring mountain black earth. The tannins are firm and chalky with crisp mountain acidity to balance. More cassis and chocolate linger on the long finish. The wine is very young and time, given time in the cellar, will develop beautifully over the next 12-15 years.
Wine Enthusiast
Tough and gritty in tannins, with a lock-down palate astringency that hides what this Cab has to offer. Give it until after 2010, at least, to throw some sediment and allow the blackberries, cherries and violets to emerge.

Wine Advocate
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain reveals some of the same raspberry and blueberry notes, but they are less intense. It comes across like an impressive, Margaux-styled wine displaying a floral character, elegance rather than power, and a long, textured finish. Drink it over the next 12-15+ years.

Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

Parker, Jr. Initially titled The Baltimore-Washington Wine Advocate the first issue was published in 1978. Accepting no advertising, the newsletter publishes in excess of 7,500 reviews per year, utilizing Parker's rating system that employs a 50-100 point quality scale.

Wine Spectator is a lifestyle magazine that focuses on wine and wine culture. It publishes 15 issues per year with content that includes news, articles, profiles, and general entertainment pieces. Each issue also includes from 400 to more than 1,000 wine reviews, which consist of wine ratings and tasting notes.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
