Artesa’s Pinot Noir vineyards span the entire cool climate Carneros region. Temperatures are moderated by the adjoining San Pablo Bay, cool afternoon breezes and persistent morning fog. As the hot air above California's Central Valley rises it is replaced by cool air from the Pacific Ocean. These chilly winds make their way through gaps in the coastal mountain ranges and through Carneros every summer afternoon. These winds also bring in a thick maritime fog. The Sun burns off this fog late in the morning causing the temperature to immediately jump 15 degrees. This climate yields grapes that have both enough cool hang time and sunshine to develop great depth of flavor with great natural acid. An exuberant expression of great Carneros Pinot Noir. Refined and elegant aromas of raspberry, cherry and red currant. This wine is beautifully subtle. Harmoniously multi-layered with oak spices of clove, all spice and smoke. Perfectly balanced with the gentle tingle of acid which keeps the berry fruit lively yet still preserving a silky texture and finish. This wine will age well. It’s elegance paired nicely with spicy crab cakes.
