This wine is a blend of 75% 40+ year old Grenache blended with 30+ year old Syrah, and a dollop of Mourvedre. The vinification is classic Brunel with 80% of the grapes de-stemmed to ensure the purity and roundness of the Grenache fruit. This tiny cuvée is entirely made in stainless steel tank and fashioned in a supple, open style with a powerful core of fruit. Look for a soft garnet/ruby color. Rustic cherry aromas with classic Rhone spice that comes solely from the age of the vines. The palate has some weight but not overpowering like his Chateauneuf offerings. The finish is long and bold with spice.

Wine Advocate

The outstanding 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Sabrine exhibits just what heights this vintage can reach, even in humble appellations. Its deep ruby hue is followed by sumptuous aromas of black raspberries, truffles, and spring flowers. Dense, long, full-bodied, and super-serious, with no hard edges, it should drink beautifully for 3-4 years.

Score: 90. —Robert Parker, October 2008.
