Type "Bindernagel" into your favorite search engine and you’ll likely pull up a picture of Bigfoot or, perhaps, John Bindernagel. John has made a career of searching for Bigfoot. If you make it to page two (at least on Google) you’ll find "Les Chais du Vieux Bourg", the website for Domaine Bindernagel, a tiny 5 acre estate located in Cote du Jura in France. About the only thing Bigfoot and Domaine Bindernagel have in common is the ability to spot it. I found some recently and took a snapshot to prove it.

Ludwig Bindernagel and is wife Nathalie decided to leave Paris with the hopes of finding affordable vineyard land in Burgundy. It appears that both Ludwig and John are searching for the uncatchable. After a frustrating search, they landed a small parcel of land in Cote du Jura and decided to make it their own. They purchased the domaine in 2000. With very little vineyard management or winemaking experience, they crafted their first vintage in 2002 with the help of some friends. Today, their wines are among the most highly sought out wines of the Jura, for those of us that know about this fantastic wines.

What You'll Taste
After tasting a chardonnay like this our only question was, "Who needs Burgundy?" It’s sad to say but with Burgundy prices high and volume low, the Jura region is offering a tremendous opportunity to enjoy beautifully crafted old-world chardonnay without break the bank. Look for almond, honey, baked apple notes wrapped in a soft texture with a long, but elegant finish.

Grilled pork, or chicken. Terrific with salmon or grilled swordfish. Also pair with our Cato Corner farm Dutch farmstead cheese.
