Introducing Domaine Faury
Importer Kermit Lynch has built his reputation on finding domaines such as Phillipe Faury. This small domaine located in Northern Rhone produces a syrah from a designated area called Collines Rhodaniennes. It's essentially St. Joseph's little brother. Because this area sits atop a plateau instead of the steep slopes of the river, the vines are not quite as stressed. But your palate will be fooled. Phillipe Faury has a knack of squeezing every ounce of flavor out of the vineyards. This wine is every bit of Northern Rhone with savory tones of sage, lavender and thyme with blueberry and blackberry accents. There's plenty of depth here and a long finish. This is real syrah.

The End of An Era
Friday, August 30th will be the 242nd and final edition of our Friday Night Wine Down tasting series. Deep breath, it's okay. Let me explain. We started the program on a snowy Friday at the beginning of December 2008. Moods everywhere were low thanks to a market in the tank and a less than stellar outlook for the future. I turned to my guys and said, "Let's open some Puligny Montrachet." Their spirits were lifted and so were the customers who made it in that night. We turned it into a program. Now, after just over 4.5 years of the program, it's time for a change. It's time to move to bigger and better things. In the meantime, don't be deterred from stopping by on Friday nights. Bottles will be open and you’re more than welcome to a glass while you shop. It just won't be as structured.
So What Are We Doing?
Well, I'm glad I asked. As it turns out, Governor Malloy and CT Liquor Control are now allowing us to have as many as ten bottles open in the store for tasting. We plan to take advantage of that by producing a series of wine workshops. Effectively, these are "mini-camps" for your palate, preparing you for the larger tastings benefiting Turning Wine Into Water. We'll kick off the new program in September with Wine Workshop 1: A Study in "Terroir" Using Syrah. Want to see what else we're up to? Check out the event calendar. We just added a last minute tasting for next Tuesday with Field Stone Winery! We've had a busy August.
Next week, you'll begin to see a few new faces in the store. We're excited to welcome these talents to our staff. Be sure to introduce yourself to them. As we fast approach the end of summer holiday, you'll see a spring in my step and extra sparkle in my eyes. It’s not just that the kids are going back to school, fall is a wonderful season which offers so much for the palate and senses. And let's not forget football season. It’s time to prep your tailgate gear and we have just the right wines. Did I mention that 2010 Dominus arrives next week? Welcome back from the beach, we have a lot in store for you.
In good taste,
