Memorial Day kicks off the summer party season. And while the weather may not be conducive to outdoor events, there’s no better time to stock up for the coming months. We poured four great “backyard quaffers” from South Africa on Friday night and here’s the rundown.

2012 Restore White - $11 per bottle
60% chenin blanc, 30% sauvignon blanc, 10% Semillon. Aromas of green melon and young peach. Similar fruit flavors on the palate, with soft acidity on a lingering, tangy finish. A great, all-around summer sipper and the clear customer favorite.
2011 Cape View Chenin Blanc - $13 per bottle
Aromas of passion fruit, pineapple and a hint of smokey, wet slate. Round and weighty fruit is balanced by grippy and persistent acidity. Perfect with grilled swordfish or mahi-mahi tacos.
2011 Restore Red - $11 per bottle
62% merlot, 36% merlot, 2% pinotage. Cherry and red berry fruit, with savory spice notes and a touch of smoke. Warm red fruit notes on the palate framed by firm tannins and an edge of smoke. Ideal with any BBQ, fire grilled or smoked red meats.
2010 ZinPin - $13 per bottle
56% zinfandel, 44% pinotage. Jammy plum and rhubarb aromas with a hint of wet earth. Ripe red fruit flavors with a back bone of dry, stony tannins and lingering acidity to the dry finish. A great, versatile red for backyard and outdoor eating.
