"A silky texture carries plum, tobacco, coffee and mineral flavors over ripe tannins in this balanced red. Berry and vanilla notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2013. 23,000 cases made."

Legaris Crianza 2003, produced by the Legaris winery, has been awarded the Golden Bacchus in the latest Bacchus World International Wine Competition.
The competition, organized by the Spanish Union of Wine Tasters, took place in Madrid from 18 to 21 March. This event, which is being held for the seventh time, has grown in prestige to become the most important competition for quality wines in Spain. Almost 1,500 wines from more than 19 countries participated, with and without geographical indication of origin. The judging panel was composed of 60 renowned wine tasters from the domestic and international wine scene.

Legaris Crianza 2003, which has just been launched, is a reflection of the increasing development of Legaris’s wines that were first marketed three years ago. This is the first occasion that Vicuana has taken part in a competition and the result has been excellent. Berta Laguna, the winemaker, remarks, “When the Legaris project began, everything was new to us: the wine region, the newly-built winery, etc. Now with several harvests behind us, we are settled in Ribera del Duero, and that fact is apparent from our wines.”

Unlike its predecessors, this Crianza 2003, is made with a small percentage of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, which makes it more robust, gives it greater natural acidity and ensures longevity and quality in the ageing process. The dominant variety continues to be Tempranillo, which is known as Tinta Fina in Ribera del Duero.

Legaris Crianza 2003 is also available in Magnum (1 ½ litres), a format that heightens the wine’s qualities. At present the Legaris range consists of a Reserva and a Crianza.

The Legaris winery is located in Peñafiel. The project was initiated with the planting of the first vineyards in 1999. One year later the winery, designed by the architect Domingo Triay, was opened. Legaris currently has 93.5 hectares of own vineyards that are split between Curiel de Duero and San Martín de Rubiales.
