David Adelsheim founded Adelsheim Vineyard in 1971. As the original winemaker he established the winery's focus on rich, complex Pinot noirs and elegant white wines. Adelsheim has passed those reins to David Paige who joined the winery in 2001. Paige’s wine career started in a retail store in Ohio. Continued interest led him to CA to study winemaking and eventually the path ended at Adelsheim vineyards. Both Adelsheim and Paige believe that restrained winemaking methods lead to greater complexity and elegance. A hands off approach to this Chardonnay has led to a crystal clean style. Light golden color. Spiced apple and pear on the nose. Lively orchard fruit flavors are balanced by dusty minerals, which also add lift. Given a little air, the wine turns spicier and sweeter but without the loss of edge. Try this wine with grilled chicken served with tomato and mozzarella. Also pairs well with roasted chicken, seared tuna and roast pork. Drink now through 2015.

Wine Spectator

Bright and focused, this elegant wine offers layers of peach, pear and citrus flavors on a sleek, racy frame. Very pretty. Drink now through 2011.

Score: 90. —Harvey Steiman, December 31, 2009.
