The Cimicky winery, located near Lyndoch at the entrance to the Barossa Valley, was established in 1973 by Karl Cimicky and was originally called Karlsburg Wines.
The main building of the estate, which sits within beautiful formal gardens, has a castellation of spires and battlements and was created by the Czech-born Karl. The winery itself is surrounded by 75 acres of vineyards and uses state-of-the-art winemaking equipment. Cimicky aims his 15,000-case production mostly at reds, concentrating on Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Trumps Shiraz is aged for 16 months in a mix of new and used French oak. Purple in color, it offers aromas of cedar, smoke, pencil lead, and blueberry. This leads to a medium-bodied, smooth-textured wine with plentiful, ripe, spicy blue and black fruit flavors, well-concealed tannins and good length. Sweet, sappy red and dark berry preserve flavors offer very good, palate-coating intensity, with late-arriving spice. Enjoy The Trumps with your barbequed vegetables, steak and chicken!
Wine Spectator
Offers terrific presence. Supple in texture, this vibrates with black cherry, raspberry, red plum and subtle spice flavors, hinting at white pepper as the finish sails on and on. Drink now through 2017.
