Trapiche Tributo 2003
The wine shows expressive aromas of crushed, spicy red cherries and blackberries, along with herb and toasted oak notes. On the palate, the wine has a dense, rich character, and though the wine has considerable structure, the ebullient, ripe fruit steals the show, accompanied by noble, fine-grained tannins and a very long finish. Pair this wine with strong, bold flavored dishes such as a grilled Porterhouse steak with mushrooms. Wine Advocate Even better than the three single vineyard offerings is the 2003 Malbec Tributo Felipe Villafane. The wine was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1948. Purple-colored, it has an expressive nose of pain grille, scorched earth, licorice, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. The wine has exceptional depth, layers of spicy black fruit flavors, and enough stuffing to evolve for 8-10 years. This intense effort has a 60+ second finish. It should effortlessly make old bones, providing pleasure through 2035 at the least. Score: 95. —Jay Miller, December 2007. |
